At Home on the Water

From a young age I was hooked on fishing and 30 years later that passion is still strong. Though as a kid we didn’t have a boat you can bet that on any given weekend you could find my dad, brother and me fishing and crabbing off of a Central Florida pier, dock, bridge or beach…we were fishing fools! As I got older I saved up for my first boat and got into bass fishing and experimenting with various lures and flies. After high school I joined the Marine Corps and did my basic training at Paris Island, South Carolina. I then went on to serve with the 4th AAV in Tampa, Florida where I also attended the University of South Florida. In Tampa I was once again exposed to great saltwater fishing and here I started to hone my light tackle and fly fishing techniques. After 4 years in Tampa and my military contract finishing out I realized that my true passion in life was fishing, so with only my old pick up truck and a few bucks in my pocket I picked up and moved to the Florida Keys. My Keys experience was…well…life changing to say the least. Until this point I had never been more than a mile or so offshore, but the Keys opened up a whole new world to me in offshore big game fishing. I started off as a deckhand on smaller charter boats and worked my way up to larger and nicer sport fishing charter and private boats. Along the way I have worked for some of the finest captains in the world, each of whom have taught me something unique. I have been so fortunate to have the opportunity to fish the inshore and offshore waters up and down both coasts of Florida, the Florida Keys, and throughout the Bahama Islands. Moreover, the Keys are where I met my wife Veronica and we were married on a remote island in Florida Bay in 2002. In 2006 I took a job working as a fishing guide for a private club here in the low country of South Carolina. The Beaufort and Hilton Head area is a true fishing jewel with some of the finest inshore and offshore fishing that I have seen anywhere. I still do quite a bit of offshore fishing, but in the past few years I have turned much of my fishing attention to sight fishing in shallow water, fly fishing and general inshore fishing within the Port Royal Sound. In fact, as you will see from my photo gallery, my favorite fishing has become wade fishing for tailing redfish. Even if you are not looking to book a fishing trip please feel free to contact me about fishing and boating in either South Carolina or Florida.
